Guard Your Heart

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23

I’m sure that at one point or another, we’ve all heard that Bible verse, right? Have you ever really given thought to how important it truly is? EVERYTHING you do flows from your heart. That’s proof of importance, but how do we protect and guard our hearts? Protecting ourselves as Christians means being wise and discerning in our lives; it means protecting ourselves from all the things that want to harm us, physically and spiritually. Part of guarding your heart is overcoming temptations (of the flesh) daily. Guarding your heart means overcoming doubts that creep in through your subconscious daily and reminding yourself of the promises that God made to you. Guarding your heart means protecting yourself emotionally and physically, by cherishing yourself and the precious gifts you have to offer to your spouse, and only your spouse; in turn taking care of your precious soul.

We believers need to guard our hearts against all kinds of distractions from our faith. Human hearts are so so fragile. Why wouldn’t you do all you can to protect it?

The fragility of the human heart is something I see taken for granted in a lot of my friends’ lives. People don’t guard their hearts and then wonder why they’re so easily broken. If our heart is our very connection to God and the root of our relationship with Him, what will your life start to look like when your heart starts to fail?? How do you feel when you sin for a long period of time? After a while you feel pretty dirty, right? Well when you let the evil forces of the world pull you devastatingly far away from God, your heart becomes unhealthy, and stops working as it should. Kinda like when you eat only junk food and your body isn’t healthy and strong; isn’t working the way it should. Just like our physical health, our spiritual health will fail when we don’t take good care of it.

When we let our guard down and forget the promises of God, we do damage to our hearts along with our relationship with God. This is why it is so vital to guard our hearts.

Some key advice I have for guarding your heart: study your Bible, pray often, carefully choose your friends, take good advice, overcome temptations and overcome self-deprecating doubt.

This can be a spiritual matter of life and death, value and guard those precious hearts.

XOXO,

Tay
